Workplace Learning - Interstate Placements

Workplace learning in the ACT

Where relevant, the NSW DEC's procedures and proformas for accommodation away from home must also be used.

Workplace learning in Queensland

Workplace learning in Victoria

NSW government schools are able to arrange work experience or HSC VET work placements in Victoria using the NSW Department of Education and Communities' Workplace Learning Policy and insurance and indemnity provisions as well as the related procedures and implementation documents, available at:

Permission for a NSW student to undertake an interstate placement in Victoria is no longer required from the Department of Education and Training in Victoria.

However, students are strongly encouraged to find placements in NSW in preference to interstate placements. Interstate placements in Victoria are for students in schools situated in areas adjoining the border or for students seeking a career planning opportunity in an industry that is not available in NSW.

Prior to commencing workplace learning, students must satisfactorily complete effective work health and safety (WHS) preparation. This is the expectation of host employers in Victoria. For work experience, NSW students should complete either safe@work or for students with disability or additional needs, A Job Well Done. To access these WHS programs, see Occupational Health and Safety.
